I am importing a character into 3ds Max 9 64 bit and I get this error:

While reading or writing a file the following notifications have been raised.
-ERROR: Library not found: #blMilWom_v3_72712-skin
-ERROR: Unable to parse xml/dae file

here is what I found in the .dae file:

<node id="blMilWom_v3_72712-skin_skinInstance" name="blMilWom_v3_72712-skin_skinInstance">
<rotate sid="rotateX">1 0 0 0</rotate>
<rotate sid="rotateY">0 1 0 0</rotate>
<rotate sid="rotateZ">0 0 1 0</rotate>
<instance_controller url="#blMilWom_v3_72712-skin">

This blMilWom_v3_72712-skin is all over the place in it.  Does anyone know what this error is or how I can fix it?

Guessing from the easy-to-sport naming convention on Vicky 3 that you’re importing from Daz|Studio into Max using the Autodesk ‘own-brand’ Max Collada importer.. which as you’ve found out has moments of insanity because of a screwy xref convention in Daz|Studio’s Collada XML exporter (yes Collada is supposed to be a standard, but not all Collada files are the same!)

If you download the latest Max9 ColladaMax plugin from FeelingSoftware.com (it’s free to download but you need to register with their website first) you’ll find it works properly as Feeling also built D|S’s exporter - but when back in Max you hit the Import.. menu item then in your popup window you’ll find TWO mentions of Collada, and you need to make sure you’ve selected the one that says

COLLADA (*.DAE, *.XML)

and not the one that says

Autodesk (*.FBX, *.DAE)

so you target the correct plugin. You’ll get a minimal little question box (click OK if you’ve used the defaults when exporting from D|S) and after some chugging and groaning your character and rigging will arrive, including D|S’s camera. You’ll need to kick the materials back into shape though as details like eyebrow transparency don’t make it through a Collada pipeline alive, and of course the joint smoothing envelopes will be.. how do I say this politely.... “not good”.
