I find I don’t really use mental rays satellite capability, and wanted to get rid of it so I don’t have useless processes running.  Where can I disable this from.  I checked all the usual places.

I’d check Autodesk’s website.  I don’t know the actual address but search for “how to set up a basic render farm.” Look in the “Autodesk 3ds Max Services & Support.” The satellite option usually runs as a service, so it has to be deleted from the system resgistry on your computer.

If you’re talking about disabling the Service from running whenever you restart the machine, that setting is inside a file located in :

“C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc” in a file called Services.  Right click the file and open with Wordpad or Notepad.

To disable the service, add a # sign in front of the line, with a space or two after the #.

Restart the computer and it should be diaabled.  MI_RAYSAT_ is the prefix, version number should be at the end.... within the file.

Ah its a service.  There’s actually a better way to turn off services.  Just right click your computer and goto manage.  Was able to disable it from there.  Thanks.
