| editor windows and viewport performance
|
|
|
I’m getting enormous differences in viewport performance depending on which editor windows are visible. Animation can slow down tenfold for example if I open the MaterialEditor. Same for particles with the pflow editor window . If I minimise the editor window, performance jumps up to normal again for the material editor and for pflow. So it’s what’s visible on screen that’s causing the drop, not just having the window open.
What is this? A hardware problem? It happens with D3D, openGL and software drivers.Maxtreme too. I’m using 9 and it’s happened with all the various configurations I’ve had installed (SP and PBs). My PC is a dual Xeon with QuadroFX1100, XP SP2. Everytime I need to scrub the animation I have to minimise all editor windows.
Can somebody check on their machine if this happens so I can narrow it down? It’s more noticeable (you can’t miss it on my PC) with heavy data.
Thanks
Mark

Thanks. Seems to happen here regardless of what’s in the slots. They can be 3x2 and blank, but it still slows the viewports down.

there are “don’t animate” and “Animate Active Only” options in the material editor to speed things up with animated materials.....
the other thing (slow viewport with mated open ) might be a directX setting thing - try the different “window update” settings in the DirectX/OpenGL config dialog. And try disabling Dual Planes completly- this might slow things down even more on specific graphiccards…

I find that the Arch and Design materials are very slow - I see this a lot in scenes uploaded here. Unless the scene was posted because of a material question/problem then the first thing I do after loading the scene is to reset the material slots (Utilities > Reset material editor slots).

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).

Thanks. This happens with blank slots and the viewports set to object colour too, so I have a feeling it’s a hardware problem.
