If I shut down 3DSMAX without resetting the scene and click ‘Exit’, the program will generate an error-report when shutting down. If I click on the X in the upper right corner to shut down the software, the same happens. Is there anybody who has experienced the same thing?

It is minor, so it isn’t a big deal.

Max 2008 and Max 9 (the only two versions I’m running) almost every time (probably 98% of the time) I close the program it generates an error report.

Yeah same for me - the little red x - I’ve had it a few times still running on my task manager and had to kill it there even though the actual program was visually off - I knew because when its running Vista Aero is off

Good morning.

We had the same problem here at the office too.
In our case it was finalrender that couldn’t shutdown correctly. We solved the problems by downloading SP1 for finalrender R2.

So if you are using finalrender on a Vista machine it can be the same problem we had.

Max 2008 64 bit, Windows XP 64 SP 2, no such problem.
The same with Max 5.1, 7, 8, 9, on Windows XP 32 SP 2.

Anyway I practically never shut down Max through the “Little X”, almost every time use the Exit option in the “File” menu.

Well, the error-report is generated when I use the “Exit” as well unless I ‘Reset’ before “Exit”. I think after getting an error-report a day from me during the next few months will be an incentive to release the first SP to take care of this minor annoyance.

I’ve had it happen, but only on rare occasions. I suspect it is memory related because it only seems to happen if I have several applications open at the time, or if I have a large scene open, or if I have the Help and/or the tutorials open. And even then it isn’t consistent. It doesn’t seem to cause any problems anyway.

Oh yes, the “X” and the “Exit” menu option should be identical - if it’s coded correctly…

Do you have a screen shot of the error message?
I had a similar problem which I found to be caused by one of my anti-spyware applications that was running real-time protection… :\

It may well have been Final Render related here, I hadn’t thought about until reading this topic, but since installing SP1 for fR 2, I haven’t seen it nearly as much. Just tested both 9 and 2008 using the Red X and no error. Though I almost always use a keyboard combination to shut down Max (Shift-Q).

The error report I was receiving, for the poster above, was the generic, “Max has produced an error” no real information on the crash.
