Hello. I recently installed 3ds max 2008 32-bit student edition. It worked right after I installed it, but after I restarted my computer and tried to open 3ds max, a popup screen came up and said, “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.” I tried putting in the cd and reinstalling it, but during the screen called, “setup initialization,” a popup window appeared that said:

The handle is invalid
Failed to copy the following files:
SetupRes

If someone could help me fix this problem I’d be very grateful.

Thanks!

P.S. I tried contacting the Autodesk company, but I couldn’t find their support email…

What OS? If it’s vista then Max has to be run “as admin”.

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

I’m running it on Windows XP Professional. And I’m already logged into the administrator account.

P.S. If I get the license to a program, like motionbuilder or 3ds max, and then it’s uninstalled, will I still be able to run it and get a new license or use the old license again?

Once you have activated and authorized 3ds Max, you can un-install and re-install all you want. The license will not be affected. That is, as long as you are on the same system. To move the license to another system, use the PLU (Portable Licence Utility).

oooo. Now the error message changed to “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.”
Anyway, I’m not so sure I want to uninstall it since there’s also an error code when I put in a cd. I don’t know what to do! I tried a system restore, but it hasn’t created any recent ones.. This program was pretty expensive, so I kinda neeeeed it to work. Does anyone know how to contact the Autodesk company by email? Or if you know the solution, that would be even better!

I’m having the same problem you are.  I haven’t tried re-installing yet either.  I’m getting the second eror code, though.  Not the first.  Interestingly enough, it ran for me about six times with one shutdown in the middle of that before giving me the error.  On the second shutdown, right before it stopped working, the application gave me one of those annoying End Now messages about four times and one other one popped up that I was failry certain related somehow to an autodesk process.

See if one of you can test this… remember the original value and change it and try, if it doesn’t work, change it back and report here.

If you Google search you will find that “The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)” is a Windows issue.

I have one system that comes up with that error and my next step is to repair the OS. If that fails, I will wipe the disk clean and start over.

Also, those of you with errors, try shutting down Max and moving the 3dsmax.ini to a temp directory.  Your preference settings will be lost but that file may be corrupt and causing other unknown errors.
