Hello All,

Recently i have made a 3d model of a pyramid, and i would like to put it on my website. Since w3d is for shockwave i thought it would be as simple as export and then embed in an html.

so my problem is that i can’t embed it into an html webpage. Does anyone have any idea of how to embed/put any 3d model onto a webpage?

I have attached a picture of it if anyone wants to see

I usually use Virtools which offers a web player. You can add quite easily interactivity on your models.

Erik,

if you want to show your w3d seamless on a web page, you have to “wrap” it into a shockwave file. You can do this with Director for example.

BUT: the client needs the shockwave plugin AND you have to write your own nagivation. I´ve done this for urban models before, including a gamelike WASD-control to navigate your Avatar. Shockwave 3d performance is very poor (compared to Acrobat 3d for example) but is ok for small poly counts. Let´s look forward to Flash 3D (another try to establish a 3d web format).

Is there any free tools out there that will do the job?

You can download and publish Shockwave movies with the 30 day trial of Director 11. Just import the w3d into Director and then publish the content as Shockwave to display. If you want to give the user some basic controls, try the library of behaviors - where you should find behaviors that will allow key control or mouse control over the camera or model. You can of course also script the interaction - but i gather your primary interest is in making the model viewable in 3D online.

By the way with over 400 million installed plugins on current Internet enabled computers, Shockwave enjoys about 60% ubiquity. That means that your 3D will be up to 10 times more likely to be viewed immediately than other 3D plugins.
