In the 3ds max 9 preference settings, on the viewports tab when “Ghosting before Current frame” is enabled, ghosting is shown only AFTER the current frame and if Ghosting after current frame is enabled, then Ghosting takes place before the current frame…
Was it supposed to happen in vice versa ? Is it a bug ?

Firstly, please remember that this is a peer-to-peer forum - users-to-users, not a shortcut to Autodesk support. You will receive an answer when another user chooses to respond.
In answer to your question, the ghosting appears to function correctly, and identically, in all versions from Max 7 through Max 2009.
Ghost Before shows where the object was on the preceding 5 frames, Ghost After shows the where the object will be on the next 5 frames.
Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.
