I normally work in Max 9 or Max 8 as i still have some plugins that i have not updated to Max 2008. I was rendering a large image that used the Glow effect and i found that when i was working with the image in Photoshop the Glow effect needed to be increased as i could barely see it. When i went back into Max 9 i realized that it was the resolution of the image was killing the glow effect. If i reduced it it would work. So i opened the file in Max 2008 and tried it again. i got a little higher but still had to lower the resolution of my images to get it to work.
The machine i am using is pretty clean and has 2 gig of ram. Has anyone else found this problem?
I guess i could reproduce the glow effect in Photoshop but it kind of defeats the purpose of the effect.

Yep, the max glow has always been broken for high-resolution images. It’s the same in Combustion also. I really wish they would take the time to make it more memory efficient, but after this many years and this many bug reports submitted, I don’t hold out much hope.

Cebas has (finally!) updated FinalFlares (used to be ProOptics) to work with Max2008. Years back, I used it for some print work, and seem to recall that the Cebas glows scaled just fine (resolution-independent). Maybe there’s a demo version?
