I’d like to learn how to output to Hi-Def (HDTV) Is it as simple as rendering to 1920x1080?
Are there specific settings in Premiere that need to be addressed?
Thank

In theory (assuming you know your delivery is on 1080 HD and not on one of the other sizes) - but the pixel aspect ratio for HDTV is 16:9 so if you render a square-pixel image it’ll either clip off the top and bottom or stretch sideways. See this thread for the options and numbers to use:-

Well the link made it more confusing...that thread said I’d get clipping at 1920x1080.
I thought Hi-def was 1920x1080 I guess I’m confusing things.
Is Hi-def, HDTV, wide screen 1920x1080 and 16:9 the same thing?
If not how do they differ?
Thanks so kindly.

UVSAR, you’ve misread the other thread. That thread was about converting pal d1 to hd.
The pix aspect of hdtv is 1.0 (square pixels). The image aspect is 16:9. So to answer the original question: yes, rendering to hd is as simple as rendering out to 1920x1080 (there’s a setting in max).

Not in every case - in the 16 standards only some are 1.0PAR, it depends on which the broadcaster is using. 16:9 PDP screens working to 1080p are usually non-square at 1024x1080 or 1280x1080.

But the video is still encoded and sent out at 720p or 1080i with square pixels. The display is free to do whatever it wants with the signal. Otherwise, you would only be able to use one type of display with a given broadcaster.
And even if some do broadcast in 1024x1080 you’re still better off rendering at the max resolution (1920x1080) and re-encoding for this special case (which I’m sure the broadcaster is set up for).
