hi all,

i have received a c4d file and i have imported it into max.  if i look at the objects in ‘user’ view (3d ortho) then the model is perfect.  when i switch to any perspective view, the whole thing seems corrupt.  in this view, even if i create a new object (e.g. cube) it also looks corrupt.  any ideas what the problem might be?

cheers

It’s hard to tell for sure by just looking at the screen grab, but it appears as though you have overlapping geometry. Otherwise, try changing your display driver settings to see if it helps.

just in case anyone wants to know, the scale was wrong when i first brought the model in.  once i brought it in at correct scale the model was fine.

cheers

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the info. It’s always appreciated when people post solutions instead of leaving it hanging.

Hi,

may I ask how you were able to import a C4D-model to Max? A special plugin? Free or commercial?

Thanks,
- Jonas

Glad to see you figured out the problem.  I’ll also add in that if the model is brought in very far from the origin, it can affect the viewport similar to this.  How a CAD drafter can create a plan 60 miles out from the origin is completely beyond me, but Max sure hates it when you import the linework.  :)

hi Jussing,

i can’t remember for sure as it was just a one off but i think it was just a simple .3ds export/import.  i’m sure though that there was no plugin necessary.  i’ve found that moving poly models (max c4d etc) between poly model software works pretty well with a number of formats.  moving poly models to nurbs software (cad rhino etc) and vice versa produces the ugly triangulation which is unavoidable (i’ve never tried the plugins that help to avoid this), and in my case, the original model was from archicad which doesn’t export great…

Ah, OK, so the intermediate file wasn’t a C4D?

I asked because I have a client who gives me C4D files that I can’t import.

Thanks for the fast reply!

I’m as curious as Jonas as how you imported a C4D into max.  What format was the model?

Well that’s the whole thing - I didn’t import it, but I want to. :)
