I am attempting to loft an S curve along a path that moves in the x and y plane (similar to a handicap access ramp). However, when I use loft, the final shape is distorted. I am looking at the front view with my S curve in profile and something like this | as the line i want to loft along. But why can’t my curve just move along this path in the X and Y direction? What is going wrong? Let me know if you need more info

Please post a ZIP or RAR file of the problem path and shape only.  That way, it’s focused on the items in question.  You can select the Path and Shape, and your Loft, then File, Save Selected.

It helps to see the file for some problems.

Dude not really sure what ure trying to do with these objects...just post a screenshot or render of what the problem is. at the moment there is just an ‘s’ shape line and a straight path. Maybe an example of what ure trying to achieve would help as well...im pretty sure its something you overlooked when u were creating the shapes…

I attached a new .zip with more information. In the new max file, it shows an arch that I lofted along the same path. I want the ‘light reflector’ spline to loft in the same manner, as shown in the attached jpg. the lofted ‘light reflector’ should look like the ‘arch’ in front view, with only changes in the Y axis. Thanks

I opened your file, and don’t see exactly what you are trying to explain.  Please post a screen capture showing the results you get and point out what it not working as you expect.

FYI, you may want to clean up your light reflector spline a little.  It has an awful lot of unecessary vertices, and you should turn down the Skin steps in the Loft object.

In file, it shows the spline I want lofted and the result. The result, however, is rotated and mirrored in such a way that I cannot get it to what i want. If you look in the front view, you will see the outline of the spline as well as the extrude path. I want the spline to move along this path but not to be rotated or mirrored. When the loft is applied (still looking in front view), the spline is lofted along the -X axis (the left part of the screen). I want the lofting to take place vertically, so that the spline moves in the +Y direction (towards top of the screen).

Actually, both lofts are “wrong” - look closely at the end of the Arch loft and compare it to the Arch Shape. Lofts work up (along) the local Z axis of the shape(s), yours are the wrong way around. Try creating a shape in the BACK viewport, attach your shapes to it then detach them - they will inherit the correct local Z. Lofts can be - problematical - so be prepared to to mirror/rotate if you don’t get the axes right.
