Hi, forgive my stupidity but I I am new back using Max after several years.  I upgraded to 2008 and started a project.  For some reason I have lost my rendering progress dialog box.  And and I can’t find were to restore it anywhere.  I am scoured the manuals from previous versions without any luck.  I’ve gone through the help menus without any luck.  Does anybody know how to restore this the rendering progress dialog to active or visual status?  Please!

Thank you
Roger D.

Note that the instructions (paths) in that thread are for Max9 32-bit - you’ll need to change them appropriately for Max 2008 and/or 64-bit.

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

I don’t know that there’s any particular difference in any particular Max version for this question either way but thanks for your response.

No difference (AFAIK) in the contents of 3dsmax.ini (relevant to this dialog), but there certainly is a difference between max9 and max2008, 32bit and 64bit regarding where the file is located.

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 32bit\enu\
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 64bit\enu\
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 32bit\enu\
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 64bit\enu\

And probably different again if you’re on Vista.

Prior to Max 9, the file is stored in the root install directory e.g. c:\3dsmax7\3dsmax.ini

Did it help fix the problem for you?

Okay I went and looked but couldn’t find a line that referred to “rendering progress dialog” or even anything close or related.  So I’m still clueless.  Is there a “default settings” file like this on the install DVD I could just substitute?  I didn’t change anything else that I know of.

thank you
Roger D.

You have to search for exactly what was suggested in that thread, namely “RenderProgressDialogPosition” - no spaces.

If you wish then you can rename that file to something else - max will create a new, clean one the next time you load it. You will, of course, lose a good many settings you have made in the process, which is why I didn’t suggest it. Overkill in this instance tbh.

This is getting kind of creepy now.  None of the text in your screen capture appears in my current defaults configuration settings.  I went and renamed my existing one only to have Max creat a new one which also did not contain the text in question about the dialog box.  I’m using Max version 10.0 commercial on a machine running XP Pro.  This is even more of a puzzle now.  Any suggestions where else to look?

Thank you

I take that back!  The dialogue box was apparently positioned offscreen somehow by accident.  I’ve been fooling around with this multiple display set up and it would appear when I open the program and moved something and then changed display settings that the dialog box got left out in the cold somewhere offscreen.  Sorry for my ignorance.  I’ve been working way too many hours trying to get something done and you don’t think very clearly anymore after a few too many days at this.
Thank you for your help

Roger D..

Ahhh !!!!!

That was mentioned in the thread I linked you to. It’s the favourite way of losing that dialog (having it on the “wrong” screen).

The “3dsmax.ini” File you are after, is in the “enu” folder,(See Attachment).
If you go further to Default>Max, you get the “CurentDefault.ini”, that is not the file you need. Maybe some help?
