Making fire stretch along a path

I need to make fire look like its moving up a flight of stairs.  Like a flamethrower. I cannot use a atmospheric gizmo because it cannot be stretched along a path.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

I think I am going to use mulple gizmos and have them follow a path. that seem to work pettery well.
