I am having two or more seemingly unrelated UI problems. I would appreciate any insite that anyone might have.

My Move/Transform gismo does not display the yellow plane conecting the axis when Axis constraint is on. I have to grab the center
square.

In poly subobject mode and working locally, the thing that I move goes in a direction not discribed by handles on my MoveTranform gismo.

My vert snap does not work when not in create mode.

Thanks.

Which version of Max? Put this (and your basic system specs) in your sig - it saves us having to ask and you can’t forget to mention it).

The “center square” is the result of turning on “Move in screen space” in Customise > Preferences > Gizmos (tab). It is off by default and should probably remain so unless you have a specific reason for turning it on. With it on, motion is restricted to a plane defined by the current viewport which may be (partly at least) the cause of your second issue.
Another option on that dialog, in the “Move Gizmo” section is “Plane Handles” - have you turned that off?. If so that would explain question 1.

With Snaps on the cursor will jump to the nearest snap object (Customise > Grid and Snap settings) whether that is on the current object, a different object or even a frozen object (with the appropriate settings). Have you made the “Snap radius” too large? (Options tab of the above dialog).

Thank you Steve.

I had ticked Move in “Screen Space” in an attempt to “recover” that yellow plane/handle;
Still no luck   But that was the cause of my second issue. Thanks.

Snap issue is resolved; I had ticked Use “Axis Restraints” within snap settings, option tab.

Thanks for your help.

If anyone has experienced the loss of their yellow conecting Axis handles. Please chime in.

Thanks, Alan.

Did you check the Plane Handles setting?

Another option on that dialog, in the “Move Gizmo” section is “Plane Handles” - have you turned that off?. If so that would explain question 1.

When you hit the x key it can turn your gizmo off.  Just hit x again and see if it comes back.  If that does not work then go to: customize>preferences?>gizmos>then click transform gizmos on.

Hope that helps.
