Hi,

I have really problems with DR in MR with RPC. Red Artifacts and this error message:
PHEN 8.0 error: RPC_MR ERROR extracting RPC texture yielded error -1 Thread d88d:  --Texture::data:  ERROR while retrieving RGB data for image 0

I´m using “Use mental ray map manager”, ACM server with //machine/resource in paths, and all nodes pointing to server name.

I found this tutorial from Archvision: http://www.archvision.com/Tutori...MwhenNetworkRendering.cfm

I don´t found the solution. Please help…

¿There is nobody who is using Mental Ray with Distributed rendering and RPC?

I need help from any user with experience with this.

Best regards.

I have heard that if you install all rpc content on local paths on each of the render nodes that you can avoid the dreaded red artifacts. You might need to avoid the documents folders and put your rpcs in a folder directly on the c drive on your workstation and all the other systems so they have identical local paths. I haven’t tried it myself because it never seemed worth the hassle. I just use dbr until it’s time to test render rpcs and then i turn it off. This issue needs to be addressed by archvision I think and not autodesk. Their content manager doesn’t seem to work with dbr and consequently the buckets rendered by the other machines can’t find the content and replace them with red planes.

Sorry that I don’t have a fix. Maybe someone else can post how to properly set up rpc content so that id works with dbr!

Hi,

Really tank’s for take time to reply my message.

My LAN structure is:

- Server computer: With Archvision Content Manager installed (Last version), UNC paths pointing to //Server/RPC, and content located in drive F:\Library\RPC (Shared in network as RPC with all rights).
- My work station, with plug-in installed and pointing to Host: server. All content appears ok.
- Other 10 computers with same configuration as my Work station.

I´m making MR distributed rendering without backburner.

Next week arrives the new server with 2 Xeon quad core and I need to found any solution.

Best regards.

I wish I knew how to make it work. My render farm has no trouble finding the network rpc content but the dbr can’t find it! Anyone out there know how to make rpc and dbr work together?

The problem (but maybe you fond it!!) is tha path of the shared RPC: it must be UNC path too.

Hi,

I believe that is a known limitation.  Let me know if you find anything, but with RPCs I’ll set up a Backburner render to Strips rather than use Distributed because of this issue.  Distribured give red boxes, as you’ve seen.

This technique also helps you to cover your bases, too, as a crash in the rendering won’t cause you to lose your entire image.
