I seem to get previews which almost never resemble the resulting render.
I played with many parameters but nothing seems to stabilize its behaviour.

Is this happenning to you too ?

I noticed you got the mrPhotographic Exposure when setting up a scene as a default. But there’s something strange about it, so I continue using Logarithmic Exposure control for mental ray renderer. I don’t know how mrPE is supposed to work.

Hi,

about a month ago i ACCIDENTALY found this site on autodesk.com

but it’s like.. almost impossible to end up at this site, really lol, without knowing the path i’ll give, try and search for the new Mental Ray-feature-demo’s, it’s a miracle i’ve found the site by stupid coincidence…

here you find all the new features of 3DSM 2008, including the one on mental ray 3.6

the Mental Ray movie is the one on the bottom, THE LAST ONE in the row if i remember correctly.

they ALSO explain the MR-Photometric-exposure control and the new mental ray skylight window..

know: other topic in “the area” in the lighting section cencern the topic MR_Photometric_Exposure control, reporting bugs as well, so i assume it would be fair if you encounter some bugs and hard times, since other pple do to

anyhow, here’s the link, check it out:

thx

I know this link. BTW - I know how to use the MR_Photometric_Exposure - it’s just being unstable in its previews and behaviour.

Change to “Automatic Exposure Control”, click “Render Preview”, then return to “mr Photographic”. Now you should get a correct preview.
I don’t know why but this works here. Any background (e.g. mr physical sky) however stays black (in preview).

Thorsten

Hi and thanks

I saw your thread initially but as it was originated just a few days before the launch of MAX 2008 I thought it was more MAX 9 related.
I will look into it - again , thanks a lot
