I created a Network Deploy with a single Network License Installation. I have it set to do a Silent Install on a local machine. Every time I go to do the install, I get the following Error Message…

Failed to open \\networklocation\3dsMax2008_32-bit.msi!

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Have I done something wrong?

We had the similar problems over here with the deployment wizard. Autodesk told me to not use the deployment wizard which comes on the dvd because it’s buggy… They recommend a Microsoft software for that job… in the end we installed it as stand alone versions and turned it into floating version afterwards.

sounds like a network permissions issue.

I created a network deployment with the wizard and pushed it out to several of our workstations without issue.

Great solution from autodesk :(

I tried to use the deployment wizard, too. And it seems to be buggy.

I haven’t tried to do a network deployment of 3dsmax, but I frequently have to do network deployments of ACAD which has always worked fine.  Odd that the same company can have errors with the network deployment functionality, but I do believe AStudio is right… I remember something about suggestions to use MS’s SMS or other network tools.

BUT, I too suspect it could be a permissions issue.  When trying to install the network deployment on the local machine, are you logged in as an Admin on that system?  Make sure all users who need access have access permission to that location… and read write modify permission to the local install drive as well.

You might also try setting up a group policy, adding the machine / users who would be affected, create a logon bat file that automatically starts the install process.  Maybe that would work in your case, better than manually starting the installs.

Even if you use the DVD, you can specify if the install is a network license or a Standalone, it’s an option during the initial pages of the dialog.

That can’t be. I am admin and there are no permissions problem with the network drive. Also i tied to create it local and not on a network drive.

btw. now i see, this thread is about max 2008… But i have problems with max 2009. And my problem starts creating a new network deploy and not to use a existing installation source…
