Just a hobbyist and I have just upgraded my computer.  The new system has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and Win XP Pro from (cough) P-3 with Win 2000 Pro.

Question - is it a waist of time to even try to install max on this new system?  I know I have to update the C-Dilla license manager.  As I am just a hobbyist and the new PC was splurge; I don’t expect to go out and buy the latest version.

I also am not sure if I still have or would even benefit from the addition of the 4.2 update and performance patch that originally came out for v4 (and is not available any longer).

Would appreciate anyone who may have some knowledge on this.

If you had it running on 2k it will more than likely work on xp, though there may (possibly) be licensing issues.

NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).

Thanks for the feedback.

I already have the C-Dilla update from Autodesk, they still provide that down to v4 for some reason.  I ran the install last night on the new drive less the key lock installer.  I then ran the key lock routine in the new license patch with no problem and Max opened fine and asked for the registration.  Looks good so far.  I’ll get the new authorization today and see if it takes but I’m on the 30 day view and all works.

I was more concerned that the new processor would present issues since the original v4 release (turns out I did have 4.2 after all) had a performance patch to utilize P3/P4 processors.  As the Core 2 is even different than the P4 I was / am concerned that I will get lees performance than on my old P3.

I ran a few tests last night and rendering seemed to be much faster on scenes than on the old PC .  If I am not the best performance this new processor / video card can provide I may not notice :)
