Hey does anyone have any tips for speeding up Mental Ray while rendering displacement maps? I’ve got a scene with a character and if I could I’d like to speed up rendering. I’m using some fairly large displacement maps (1024x1024 and 2048x2048). Also I’m not doing myself any favors by rendering at 1024x768 res. However, it seems like 20-30 minutes per frame with only 3 lights in the scene is a bit excessive. Especially when you consider I’m rendering it a few parts at a time and using Matte Shadow Materials for everything else in the scene. Any ideas on what I can do to speed this up? The lights are using Mental Ray Ray traced shadows and am running a quad core 2.4 Intel Duo with 4 gigs of ram, max 9.
