Hi Dryo,
I’m pretty bad at the scene management stuff, -since I don’t use it much, so I’m sure others will be able to give a better answer than me. But, from the little that I’ve worked with it, I’ve always thought of it -when it comes to the Set Project Folder- like DreamWeaver. Although I think you can move everything like you’ve described, doing it from ‘outside’ of Max, for the bitmaps that will ‘break’ the directory path. You will need to open Max & from ‘inside’ of Max re-do the path directories.
To avoid the ‘bitmap missing, browse for it or continue’ pop-up window, -I think if you change your Project Folder from doing it ‘inside’ of Max, you will then avoid that pop-up window.
Example;
Set Project Folder > create location/path for folder > save scene.
Then you want to change where you have your Project Folder.
(with Max still open, -doing it from ‘inside’ of Max)
Set Project Folder > create new location/path for your folder > save scene.
Now Max ‘knows’ where you have saved your new Project Folder (and it will have created a bunch of new folders in that new directory).
Then when you close Max, and open it up again, it will be able to find your scene, open it & avoid the ‘bitmap missing’ pop-up window.
But, your images will still be in the ‘old’ directory (I think), since I don’t think Max will have moved all of your images to the new directory. Max just remembers the directory where the images are.
For the most control, and for the most options ( & most updated ) with scene management stuff, I think you will want to use; File > Asset Tracking.
File > Set Project Folder only gives you that item. But, you will also find Set Project Folder from inside of the Asset Tracking, along with a lot of additional options (like configuring paths, proxies, tree views, etc. -a lot of options.)
Hope that helps, and hopefully someone who works with scene management will be able to give you a better answer :) !
