Everytime I come back from lunch after locking my workstation, I have scrambled graphics in the viewports - the only way I’ve found to fix this is the restart 3Ds Max, which is a pain.  I’ve attached a screengrab of the scrambled viewport, here are my PC stats…

Intel S5000XVN Server Motherboard
Intel Xeon Quad-Core Server 2.5GHz 64-bit
8GB RAM
Leadtek brand, NVidia Quadro FX 3500, 256MB GDDR3
Windows XP Pro x64
Autodesk 3Ds Max 2008 x64 with V-Ray x64

I know that ` will redraw the viewport, but this has no effect.  I’ve also tried the zoom, pan, orbit tools hoping this would do something, but the scrambled display doesn’t change.

Does anyone know the cause of this problem and how I might go about fixing it?

Many thanks,
Mr Quan

I have no idea why - but it happens to me all the time.  My company locks your screen after 15min - so this is a huge pain in the ass for me.  I’ve found that if you minimize the app when you step away from your machine, it sometimes come back without being all corrupted.

Does the same happens with Direct3d or OGL?
I always had issues with Maxtrem and abandoned it years ago.

I believe this is a known issue that was reported in older versions of Max.  I just tried locking the workstation with Max on, and it displayed properly in Max2009 Design.  I tried it with Max minimized to the taskbar and Maximized.  I did not wait that long between lock workstation and logging back on… that may have something to do with it as the cache may be flushed.

Did you try floating the Max Main Window and maximizing it again?

I think you have to understand that the display may be flushed when users log off, or lock workstation, so it may be a reloading the display card buffer issue.

If you don’t have it enabled, try enabling Redraw Scene on Window Expose in the Driver Properties in Preferences, Viewport, Configure Driver settings.
