What is the best way to control the transperency of shadows using the mr daylighting system? Should I tweek the exposure controls (brightness/contrast) settings? I’ve played with “render elements” and compositing within Combustion. It’s my understanding that using the daylighing system is simulating real world lighting conditions so I don’t want to undermine that process by doing alot of post work. I’m a begginer with Combustion so I’m trying to figure out where to focus my time on a specific project. I’m also running into issues where it looks good on the monitor but different when I print. I have a specific project where the renderings are coming out with a strong shadow. I’d like to know my options in terms of a quick fix or tweak. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You are right that in one way or another we are trying to simulate the so-called real world, but don’t forget, that all we create is actually faked (there are pixels not reality). There is one main low, “if something looks good it probably is”, so don’t be ashamed to use whatever button or option you find to get the goal you are after. BTW,the most of the amazing renderings we see and admire everywhere around us are embellished in Photoshop you know, so there is not a banned weapons. Keep going.

Pick the daylighting system and go to the modify panel go to mr Sky Parameter, if you increase the haze parameter up the, then the shadows become lighther. However it will create a haze if the value is too high.

Very cool.
I also played with bumping up FG muliplier and that seemed to help.
