| Trying to install the 3ds max SP2
|
|
|
Hey. I just got 3ds max and I need to install the SP2 for Vista. Unfortunately, it installs almost everything and then it just freezes and says “You have insufficient rights. Restart your computer, login with local administrator rights and try again to complete the installation or uninstallation.”
I am running as the administrator. So I’m not sure as to why it’s not working unless I’m missing a detail. Thanks for the assistance. ^_^
EDIT: Oh crap. I found where to really post this. Sorry.

right click on the sp2 exe and click run as administrator

I don’t have that option. It just says “Run.” There is no option to run as administrator.

do you have any hot fixes installed for max 9?
if you do uninstall them then try to install service pack 2
|
|
|

Nope. I took all of them out. I uninstalled everything, then I reinstalled 3ds max alone and it still gave me the error message.

You need to explicitly run as admin as drp281 said. If you are the administrator of the box, you need to find out why that option isn’t there.
Also, make sure you’re right clicking on the setup.exe, not the install shortcut thingy (forget the extension).

Ah… I didn’t try right-clicking the setup.exe, I was right-clicking the 3ds_max_sp2.whatever it is. Okay. I’ll try when I put it in.
Thanks.

I just had the same problem with my installation of max 9 on XP. I fixed it by doing this
1. Start
2.Run
3. Regedit
4. ok
5. Go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE---->SOFTWARE---->Autodesk
6. Right click on Autodesk and select permission
In here you’ll find all the groups/ usernames allowed to modify. I only had SYSTEM in that list which meant that no one else could modify that except the system.
7. Click on add
8. Enter your username and click Check names (it should return your official computer username (it should have admin rights)
9. Click ok
10. Install
Hope this has helped someone.
