| UI Bring the Select Objects By Name Menu to the next level "Wish it could do..."

I have Max 9 SP2. I have not seen 2008 yet.
It would be nice to have an object count displayed inside this menu so you don’t always have to select and close out to see the results. I test outsourcing files all the time and have to check counts to see if they change anything in the rig or file we sent them. This would also help with complex scenes like levels to get quick count on objects or object types in the file.
Also be on the cutting edge and have this have an option to color code the text display of the List types in here. Allowing us to customize the color coding for the list types and maybe even have a default and preset selections for industry type and our ability to make our own presets. This would be VERY powerful list information here at our fingertips.
Add creation of Selection sets in here too. You can use them so why not create them here too?

Perhaps you should look at the current version of Max (2009)?
If this is a Wish (request for a feature) then the Wishlist forum would have been a more appropriate place for it.
Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.

This was my first post on this forum. Sorry. I should have looked for wish lists. We do not have 2009 in house yet. But yes I should look at it too.

You could always download the trial version.
Max 2009 Entertainment
Max 2009 Design
Bear in mind you can’t have both installed at the same time on the same PC (they use the same license).

I will have to try that out. Were any of my wish list stuff in the latest 2009 just for curiosity? Thanks for your input.

Color Code your list types & ability to make your own color Coding sets.
Personally no - use layers and object colour by layer and also Select by colour (which already exists - somewhere...)
But if it can be turned off for those of us who DON’T want it, then sure.
Add object selected count in this menu as you select them.
Sure - it cant hurt (it’s a Dialog, not a menu by the way)
Add the ability to Make selection sets inside this menu too.
Ditto
Keep it just black text like it is now.
YES! Or make darn sure we can turn of the colourising if we don’t want it.
Max2008 and 2009 have a “scene explorer” which may do some of that - or maybe not - I never use it. I immediately prevented Max from using it instead of the standard Select by Name (like many, many other users here). See this thread if you want the gory details.

Dialog. Oops wrong term.
I do use layers at times and color coding the objects. They always help.
The suggestions are for a Dialog I use a ton and it helps to have extra quick readable data there as well as the other places.
It would definitely have the option to turn on or off and customize in my mind.
I’ll have to check out Scene Explorer but Photoshop has Adobe Bridge and I just do not like using it. I’m guessing it’s a similar organizational tool.
I will check the thread out. I’m just starting to get into reading more in the forums ... or at least trying to.
