When I create a line shape in Max 9. I go to the segment or spline subobject mode of that shape, I always see the vertex’s as a box. Is there a way to turn that off? I just don’t see a need for them to be displayed when I am not in the vertex subobject mode. This does not happen in Max 8.
Thanks

The only reference I found was “Spline Knots” in Customize UI, Color. I couldn’t find anything that turns it off.

Thanks for the reply. Although that is interesting, it really does not address the display of these vertex boxes in Max 9. Maybe it is a video problem. I have two systems with this problem, one at my office and one at home. They are similar to each other on the video side. They both have NVIDIA Quadro FX cards; they both use the same drivers. Both systems use TYAN mb’s, same memory capacity. One is on XP 64x while the other is just on XP 32x. They both share the same traits.
There was an issue with video drivers with NVIDIA and edges always being displayed on geometry that was hidden. I think this is the same sort of thing!

I don’t think this is a video display problem. I think spline object’s vertex appearance was changed for Max 9.0. Now I’m wondering whether we’re talking about the same thing.

The vertices are displayed in all Spline subobject modes; in Max8 as x’s and in Max9 as boxes. It’s not something that can be turned off, to my knowledge.

You can reduce the size by lower the Handle Size in the Viewports tab, Preference Settings.

Aha, that’s where it was. I was thinking Bezier Handles when I saw Handle Size. Thanks Tim. :)

So what you are saying is the tic marks that were used in previous releases of Max are now boxes in Max 9! And there is no way to change them to the tic marks. Is that what I understand? Yes I should have been clearer with regards to what I was asking on the vertex display. Yes they have been displayed as tic marks. Don’t you find it rather hard to edit geometery when you have all these boxes cluttering up the display. The tic marks are much easier to see what is going on with the geometry in my opinion.
Yes I did change the handle size to something smaller. If that is what I have to do, then ok. I would rather have a choice between tics and boxes if you ask me. At least the old way you could tell right off which is the 1st vertex. With Max 9 you have to be in either segment or spline subobject mode to see which vertex is either welded or 1st. You didn’t have to make that quess in the previous versions.

It’s true that “Show Vertices as Dots” is an option for geometry, but not for splines.
As for open splines, the first vertex is always in yellow, so that should help a little.

Well actually you can change them to any color. Oddly enough I changed mine to an off yellow before I read the last entry. This is what I liked on the previous versions. You knew which was the 1st vertex because it was represented by a square and all the others vertices were shown as a tick mark.
Now I ask you, if you had several segments connected to each other, or at least you thought so, could you tell if the vertices were welded or not with Max 9’s current scheme? You could easily see that with previous versions of Max! Am I wrong here?
Thanks
