Hi I’m almost going to cry this is such a frustrating problem that pretty much slows my Edit Poly work flow to a snails pace.

I’m having view port refresh problems or just corruption, so here’s a couple examples:

:: when im moving verts around in edit poly, edges do not refresh their new position, so they look like they haven’t moved at all, and even when i switch between vert and edge mode i clearly see verts in their new position but the edges haven’t moved. so i see verts floating wherever i placed them. i thus have to move verts back to where they were and back again to their new position just to have the edges show up where they have to be. extremely frustrating

:: while in edit poly mode having not touched smoothing groups yet, while modeling i get weird artifacts on some faces which have harsh shadowing or blackening on diagonal edges. This disappears and reappears by playing with smoothing groups.

:: the viewport struggles to update, even with extremely simple models in the viewport, while moving and arc-ing around, face shading will disappear and I will only see the edges sometimes, and then when I stop moving the faces come back.

:: Lag when I switch between view modes (F2-F3-F4) everything is slow to update. like if i want to see shaded faces, the model will stay for a few seconds as edge-only until I move around it frantically.

I run Vista ultimate 32 (probably my problem) core 2 duo 3.8GHz, 3GB ram, 8800GTX 768mb, and plenty of HD space.

also, does max2009 have similar problems or has this been fixed. Thanks.

Hi,

You can try getting the demo of Max 2009 and see if that helps you.  I have not seen these issues, but do not have that hardware or OS.  I had Vista on my laptop, and switched back to XP to get performance back.  :(

That video card is ‘game rates’ and not a workstation card.  Switching to a Quadro series card may clear this up.

Do you have a different system you could try your scene on?

I occasionally get your first problem. If I restart max, it’s OK.
