| What do you think about the new Select by name?
|
|
|
I don’t like it. I want just the names(like in Max <9) , I think it was much faster to pick objekts during my normal work. I don’t need the Icons in front of the names.

I haven’t really decided yet about the new Select from Scene dialog. I haven’t really come to appreciate what might be better about it but I am inclined to use the old method.
I always operate with the Selection Floater open and I have added that back to my Tools menu so I still use that. I think someone mentioned that there is a setting in the 3dsmax.ini file that let’s you restore the old Select by Name functionality back to the H key.
Think it might have been a post by Bobo on the CGTalk forum.
Sorry I don’t have more precise info for you.
Sincerely,
Mike Truly

The first thing I noticed about it is amount of time needed for it to open… And once it did and all the colors and useless info showed up, I knew why.

I liked the old way cause it was basic as, to the point and very fast. If you’ve named your objects nicely in your scene it was very easy to use.
Like Eodeo said the new way is a bit slower granted its loading a lot more information about your scene, but 90% of the time i just want to quickly select something rather than read into it.
Should be an option to set basic (old way) or advanced (new way) view.

Well, I don´t like the .NET design. It´s slow in the begining and don´t fit the rest of the max UI.
But I will give it a try for a while before I switch back. I hope that nobody at adesk will change the whole interface of max in this way.
BTW: You will find the instruction for switching back to the old style in the readme.txt of max2008.

Lol - I thought the same thing - It reminds me of the Adobe help on top of the tool bar that I accidently hit sometimes or the browse…

i wish there was just a drop-down where you name the object in modify. I thought there was at one time…
It would be so much faster.

have reverted back to old selct by name too.
anyone know of a way of reverting back to old style unhide by name dialogue too?
it is soooo slow, and the way it expands all the groups by default is unusable for me. also the way it filters objects by their base parameters (so a circle with an extrude is listed as a shape) is very bad - unless I’m missing the point somehwere

And this is the setting I used right after installation (as also setting to small buttons)!
I don’t miss the new dialog as I’ve never seen it ;)
