When I’m using 3ds Max 2008, the menus and viewports disappear a lot. I can get them to re-appear by mousing over them, or by dragging a window on top, but it’s really annoying.

Picture attached

I’m using an Ati Radeon X1950 Pro on XP x64 SP2. I’ve tried both 32bit and 64bit 3ds, and it didn’t make any difference. Any ideas how to fix this?

First thing has to be graphics card drivers. Are you on the latest release for your card?

It’s preferred if images are attached to the post - that way they don’t disappear when a link dies (which they do all too often). Click the “browse” button underneath the box where you type your post.

I updated to the latest drivers (8.5) yesterday, but the problem has been there since I got the graphics card (I was using the 8.3 drivers).

I’m not familiar with ATI cards - what’s the nearest nVidia card - performance wise? i.e. is it up to the job?
Th only other things I can think of are
a) mouse drivers - they’ve been known to mess with max (Logitech and Intellimouse) and
b) a corrupt UI file. You can check this by loading a different theme, but be aware you may (will) lose some customisations in the process.

Hmm, it seems like it was Intellipoint. Do you know if there’s a way around having to uninstall Intellipoint?

Not that I’m aware of, though searching (here) for “intellimouse” may bring up something I’ve missed. I do know that uninstalling the drivers and just using the default ones in windows has fixed similar problems for quite a few other users.

The problem is, I’d really like to use the drivers, because the default drivers just don’t cut it.

Thanks for your help though.
