Animating a valve train

Hi!
I have to animate a valve train with a camshaft and a bucket tappet (see pic attached).
I tried it several hours but I couldn´t find a way to make the bucket
following the cam lobe lift curve.
I would be happy if anybody could help.

Hmmm this is a bit of tricky one.

I looked at it and thought immediately that I had an easy solution for you but then I realised it isn’t as easy as it first appears. 

The first step in solving it would be to animate in one axis.  And maybe just with one bucket and one irregular cam lobe.  At the moment with the thing on opposing axis of an engine it’s going to be a complete pain for experiments. 

You are going to have to use some dummies which only inherit motion in one axis.  Or perhaps some wiring.  Try these:
