Hello all. I am fairly new to 3ds and have struggled for several days trying to make a very simple animation. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Basically I want to rotate a camera from a perspective view (of the top corner of a building) to a plan view (not orthographic, but must be perfectly straight and level). I have tried both a target camera and a free camera. It seems when a target camera is used and the position get close to vertical (plan view) it starts to rotate like crazy. Also if I set it up perfectly above the building, when I key the position it rotates 180 or something close to it? When using a free camera I can get the position I want, but when I key it my screen goes white and the camera position seems to change to the origin? There is no problem if I create an animation that isn’t a perfect “top” or plan projection, so I assume there is some different procedure to get a “plan” view. Thank you in advance for your time!

Evan

Firstly - duplicate threads are not permitted here as per the forum rules. Your earlier thread (in Max2012) has therefore been removed.

The camera “twitch” when pointing vertically down has been around for a long time - it’s a function of the the way the rotation is controlled. Using a Path Constraint or a LookAt Constraint will cause it.

Why you’re getting a white sceen with a Free camera I don’t know - it’s working here, or at least seems to be.

I’m sorry about the duplicate posts, I just though that I had put it in the incorrect discussion group earlier. I will try again with the free camera, if it is not a know problem. Thank you for your response.
