This was actually a question I asked on the CAT plugin forums. Can I do this with CAT plugin ?

humanik.gif

As CAT is talked as one of the most powerful character plugin on the market.
Or can I animate with Biped in this way ?

That human Ik character moves pretty much like a real person, not like a robot or dummy. If you pull a hand, the rest of the body will react accordingly. And all that in a realistic and helping way. The HumanIk really seems very smart. I was able to do a karate like leg kick in a matter of minutes. Extremely fast. Because you work with that character like you would do with a real person. When you are posing the character it’s like you are in front of a real person.

Better yet, see the gif picture animation, or the little longer youtube video, (30 seconds)
HumanIk test

or the small animation I did.
HumanIk animation previz
(only 10 seconds)

A quick rough previz in place of a drawn storyboard (keep in mind that this was my first animation, I didn’t have any background whatsoever and I did it very fast with the HumanIk)

How ever there isn’t a good animator out there that wants any automation in their rigs. Any time I have ever added stuff like that to rigs the first thing I’m asked is how do I turn it off. The timing on your animation is only close, a good previs. An experienced animator wouldn’t take any longer to do it with a typical rig then you would have to work with it and they would get exactly what they want. Personally, after just spending a couple of weeks fighting with CAT, I don’t think that it is that powerful at all. You could say that I took a kick at the CAT, and the CAT didn’t come back. HumanIK I have not used.

I dont think there is any animation system you would like to use because your accustomed to building your own rigs. wouldnt how long it takes depend more on the skill of the user. there is definately a market for human IK
