I’ve never seen anything about putting particles on this cone shaped object and using the deflector to activate them, it looks like.
Yes, the deflector tells the particles to move from Event 01 to Event 02. In Event 01, they have no shape so they seem invisible and will not render. But in Event 02, they have a shape assigned to them and the animation on the scale operator makes them “fade” in.
And you can use the position object operator to put particles on, or in, any poly object.
I’m using 3ds Max 2012. I wish we learned how to use this in my class it seems really powerful with what I’ve seen. Is this an easy set up that you’ve created?
The reason I ask is that 3ds Max 2010 and up have some additions to them (not particularly applicable in this case though), but making sure I can create a sample file that you can open is.
This is fairly basic, but you can expand on it to make it a little more complex, showing more variation and such. Once you understand the functions of each of the operators and tests, it’s easier to see how to make a setup for your situation. And if you get stuck, you can always post on this or another forum and someone will help you out :)
