I’m trying a Max plugin, RayFire, which makes demolishing an object pretty easy. Now I’m trying to fragment an object in Max without the plugin. This is what I’ve done, so far. Using reactor I animated a box dropping on a platform. I then used PArray to fragment the box. Now I’m trying to figure out how to animate the box so that it doesn’t breakup until impact. Is it possible to do this in Max without a plugin?
Thanks.

You can set the frame where Parray emits the particles and use the visibility track to hide the original geom at that point. Another option is reactor fracture.
Search through the Particles and Dynamics forum, there should be loads of threads about this sort of thing.

This is great script, that fractures your object. Easy to use and works well in most cases.
If you would use the reactor “Fracture” Objects, you have an option to break a certain object at a certain time.
