| How do I get my camera to follow my character?
|
|
|
Hi!
I have got an other problem today. I want my camera (a target)follow the character that i have done, but I don’t know how to do it. Can anyone tell me what i have to do?

The very simplest way is to use Select and Link to link the target to a part of the character, Eg, a bone or COM or whatever part is suitable.
Depending on how the character moves, that may not give a smooth camera movement, there may be a bit of up and down movement as the character walks. You could eliminate that by going into Link Info in the Hierachy panel and disabling the movement inheritance on the Z axis, you will then only get the horizontal movement of the character.
If the horizontal movement is not smooth enough for you, or the character needs to move a lot vertically, you could either keyframe the target manually, or attach a helper to the character. Give the helper a spring controller and attach the target to the helper. You will need to tweak the spring settings untill you get the desired effect. The spring should reduce any shaky jerky movment in the camera, it may lag a little too but that can be more natural, like the cameraman doesn’t know where the character is going to go untill he moves.

to fix the lax you could turn down the spring settings at the moments when the character turns and then back up once the turn is complete. but of course that will also mean that any jerking during the turn will be applied to the camera.

I don’t know if anyone still looks at this thread, but I have a question. In the video using position, orientation and FOV controllers, when I get to the Script Controller dialog and define the variable, etc., after clicking Assign Track, I only get two of the three cameras that I plan to be controlled. I deleted the Switcher camera and then brought a new one in, then went through the process of building the controllers. Still only two of the three cameras show up. Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks.

I’ve answered my own question as I sometimes do on this forum. The 3rd camera showed up under a point helper which I used to animate a CAT object along a spline. I linked the camera to the point helper so it would follow along the path. I’d like to be able to use the script associated with these tutorials, but I’m afraid that the script won’t find the 3rd camera because it isn’t listed with the others. How can I change this?
