I followed a thread which had the exact same query. The following was Steve’s method which I tried but the problem was that I was not able to enter 0 in the multiplier. If I enter zero it is becoming -1 automatically;

You can’t animate the On/off checkbox, so the easiest way would be to animate the Multiplier.

Go to Frame 0
Turn on AutoKey
Change the Multiplier value to 0
Go to the frame where you want the light on
Change the Multiplier to 1.0
Turn off AutoKey.

The light will be off at frame 0 and get brighter until it is full on at the designated frame.

If you want the light to “turn on” instantly at that frame, open a Curve Editor, highlight the Multiplier track for the omni, area select the keys and click the “Set tangents to Step” button.

Pleas refer to the file I have attached.

Thanks.

I had no problem getting it set to “0”
Delete your keys, move to frame 0+x, change multiplier to 0 (right click on the value spinner), turn on auto key, set multiplier to 1. Copy the key that is automatically created at frame 0 to frame x-1.
Seriously, you need to do the tutorials that come with the program…like I said before.

I dont have any tutorials. I downloaded Max for free through Autodesk student community.
I am gradually learning by following online tutorials from here and there.

I have one more question regarding the file which you have sent. The on/off is not playing unless I select the light. If no object is selected the on/off is not visible. Is this because it is a light and I can see the on/off only when I render the animation???

I don’t know...It does render properly though.
