Make Preview... No Codecs.. max64bit
|
|
|
Hello!! I have this problem… when I use the “make preview” option to see how my animations look, I just can use 3 codecs… “microsoft video1, intel IYUV and uncompressed”.. If
use the “custom” option then other options are available like AVI,JPG,PNG et… well I use the AVI option but only I can use 2 codecs DV and Uncompressed…
I think this is a problem with the 64bit version of 3ds max, because when i use this option in max 32bit, i can access to many other codecs (but not all i have installed). So I
want to know how to make 3dsmax 64 bit to display the other codecs… at least the “quicktime"… thank for reading...!!!

Known problem - there are very few 64bit codecs in existence therefore Max 64bit has very few in the list. This is not a fault with Max 64bit - blame those who create the codecs
in the first place for not releasing 64bit versions.
Max 4.2 through 2010, XP-Pro 64 SP2.
NVidia 8800GTX-768 (Driver 185.85).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 4Gb Ram, 4Gb Swap, DX9.0c.

That site turns up nothing (with the suggested search terms).
Only 64bit codec pack I can find is the k-lite 64bit pack.
Not tried installing it, so use at your own risk.

Lagarith is a lossless codec available for both 32 and 64 bit Windows. I think it’s really more for archiving so playback can
be slow in some cases, but I use it for lo-res Max previews without problems, and being lossless the quality is perfect unlike those installed by default.

Thank you guys!!! I’ve tried those klite64 codecs.... they are so problematic… some players stop working and some video freezes… my advice don’t use them unless you know exactly
what codec you want.
The lagarith codec samab recommended is awesome in quality and speed… size of files are acceptable… I made some test for previews for all codecs available in max (32/64 bit)…
the animation was simple.. a plane, 8 teapots with different colors and a camera move through 500 frames. The results are that this lagarith codec is the sharpest and also the
file size is relatively small 36 mb,the only drawback is that if you want to edit this in premiere (or other editor)and export it, the resulting video suffers an important loss
of quality. However since I want to use it to preview is more than enough. The other codec I tested and showed the best results of all… is the quicktime h264 in standard
quality… the file size was 10mb!!!, quality of image was almost sharp, and is highly editable in premiere or other editors, which is best for me because I like to make “every
camera take” into a max preview, so I can see a “complete preview of the animation”. The problem with this codec is that is not available with max 64bit so, after you end with
animation you have to switch to max 32bit and make previews…
Thank you again, if somebody have another suggestion is welcome… I hope this information is handy for anybody.
