I’m trying to model+animate my first character in Max, I have a editable poly mesh that I apply a Symmetry and Turbosmooth modifier to. I then create a skeleton (I am using a biped skeleton, but I get the same result if I create a set of IK bones myself). However when I add a skin modifier to the mesh, with the skeleton bones added to it, moving the bones (either by adding footprints and animating the skeleton based on them, or just selecting a bone and rotating it) has no effect. The bones move but the mesh stays in the same pose.
I can edit the envelopes in the skin modifier and ensure the vertices in the mesh are being effected by the bones. But rotating the bones has no effect.
Anyone have any ideas what I’m doing wrong ? I can post screenshots if it would help.
