Using Max 2010, I have a pile of small objects (~1000) that I want to interact with other objects in a reactor rigid body simulation.  To create the pile itself I also use reactor. Now once the pile is created, I just want it to be the “initial state” of my RBs so I don’t need to simulate it over again for testing the actual simulation.
I tried deleting all keys but the last of the pile creation simulation and move these keys to frame 0, but when I start another simulation from there the RBs fall trough the floor etc., since they interpenetratet with the plane (which is fine).
I want the pile to be settled until other Objects interact with it.  Right now I always like have to simulate another 300 frames or so before the actual simulation can start.  Any workarounds for this?  I hope I made my point clear :)

thanks!

Run a preview of the sim, press P to start it, when things have settled as you want, choose Update MAX from the MAX menu of the preview window. When you exit the preview, the scene will be updated to the state of the preview.

thanks, but it’s not what I was hoping for.  After updating max and running the actual simulation, max recalculates the interpenetration from scratch and since some objects on the ground didn’t collide 100% accurate (which again is fine) they now fall trough the ground and the whole simulation therefor is changed.  Not settled anymore.

Try setting the objects to Inactive, that should keep them still until they are disturbed by something.
