i have several keys that animate a cranes motion.  is there a way to have the whole thing just reverse back to start or do i need to copy each key?
Thanks

Hi there,

Just select the keys you wish to switch round and holding shift move each frame e.g the first frame to the last and the last frame to the fist and switch around the frames inbetween.
Your animation should now play in reverse.

Hope this helps

Amelia

Select all the keys and shift+copy them, then use the Reverse Time feature of the Dope Sheet.

In one of the vids on this page:

Reveal with Reactor and Time Distortion

Louis does something on the timeline where he reverses the keys just with some dragging of handles.  I definitely need to watch the video again just to learn how he turned on this functionality.  It definitely looks easy though.

You need enough space in the animation bar; select all the animation keys,
Drag the white square towards the end of the animation bar (in the attached example from frame 0 to frame 200).
The animation is reversed. You can move it back again.

Actually - your method of dragging the white square to reverse the animation works perfectly in Max 2010, but there is a bug in my Max version 8 that prevents me from doing it.  Gives me the error I mentioned before.
Thanks for your insight.  Now if I could figure out how to get my animation out of Max 2010 and back into Max version 8, I can use it.  I’ve tried FBX export, doesn’t work.

I tried to drag the time range across - as you’ve said, but I get the following error:

This operation is not possible because it results in illegal timing.
Some restrictions are:
-keys on the same track cannot overlap or pass one another
-no keys before the first or after the last footstep
-no keys in negative frames

I was trying to reverse a walk animation for a character, grabbed the bip, selected the range from 0-130 frames, and dragged the left corner over to frame 260, as Ivan has said, got that error.

I’ve never tried it with Walk Animations, as far as I know it doesn’t work.
Anyway it is working for me without issues by any “standard” animation as well
by rendered (baked) reactor animations.
Try the Reverse Time option in the track view; don’t know if it is working in case like yours either, bur give it a try.

Hi Ivan,
Thanks for responding.  I’ve been unable to use the reverse time option in the dope sheet,
in fact, the option is grayed out and unselectable.  Sometimes it is selectable, and I use it,
but it doesn’t do anything.  I’ve heard others say that reverse time does not work.

You must select the time (the keys in the attachment) then the reverse time option become active.
Anyway as said above I don’t know whether it is working in your case.
