Let me begin by thanking anyone who has the final answer to this problem. I’ve included three images to help explain what I’m basically trying to do which is this:

I want to take a shape and keyframe it’s location along a path like in the other image. To see exactly what I’m talking about in motion go to this link http://weareroyale.com/ and view the pepsi project. This is exactly what I am trying to achieve in Max.

This has got to be the single most annoying thing in Max that I’ve ever experienced over and over. As you can see by my comp image I keyframed the “scale deformation” of the loft object (rectangle spline shape) along the path. You can also see in the image that as it is, it’s pointed. I want it flat.

I also tried building the shape as geometry and constrain it to the path, but all that happens is the object follows the path via it’s pivot point. It does not bend along the path.

I don’t understand how/why (maybe I’m just not clued in) why I can’t make a path, and have a smooth movement between the splines point A and point B.

Like I said before, in the video/image, is the exact result I am trying to end up with. I have yet to find a solid answer to this in the past 4 years I’ve used max. My images are the best attempts and answers I’ve found and the result is not solid in any way.

Any and all help would be most appreciated beyond anything!

Best,

Michael

(I’ve tried adding the images multiple times but looks like it doesn’t work...)

ALAST! Make the geometry then apply “Path Deform Bind (WSM)”

Now, if only max could handle right angle turns without intersection and could recognize it so it does not happen.
