Hi, all!

I’m animating a scene with a lot of trees in the background. I’m using forest pack with proxies of xfrog trees. The scene needs to look as realistic as possible but unfortunately, even though they are proxies, the trees are killing my render time.

Does anyone know of a good way that I might be able enhance render time but keep the quality? Maybe another solution to placing trees without using forest pack/proxies?

Hey u can can use plane with opacity textures for distance trees. use real meshes only for near by trees.

I never had any real issues with XFrog greenery / the proxies work ok here. In regards to the viewport-display I did have to use XRefs and / or Layers with trees to turn on and off or I couldn’t work properly. Besides that; try using as little different kinds of trees possible to create the effect you need… I went for 6 sorts of trees, each having a set of 5000 trees. It shouldn’t consumu to much ram?…

What’s ur scene specs?

edit: and use “display as box” - trust me, it’s better then the internal box display option from mental ray proxies
