Ok so for Christmas i finally got 3d max 2009.  I installed it and have been running it for a good week now, mostly just doing tutorials and rendering with Vray ( 2nd Christmas present :P).  Everything works great!

Just randomly today i was looking through the help stuff and i ventured to the “about” part.  Everything for my PC checks out and is how the license i bought is reported correctly, except one anomaly.  My serial key is just a bunch of zeros.  Yet everything i have done so far or looked (including on the “about 3d max") tells me that yes, I am licensed and good and everything works fine too.

So is this a problem, having nothing but a 000-00000000 for a serial key?  Would this become an issue with updating?  Is there any way to get it to properly register, or is it just a bug?

When you launch Max, do you get the “What do you want to do?” dialog, or does it go straight to the program?
If you go straight to the program and you already entered the serial number at some point (I don’t recall if it was during the installation or later) then everything is fine.

My 2009 does not show the serial number in About 3ds Max, just 0’s. This is not a bug, but by design. Your registration information is stored on the hard-drive. Check the installation guide for the location. My About 3ds Max shows the License Type as Stand-Alone, License Days Left-Indefinite, License Behavior-Permanent, and a License ID number.

If you do not go straight to the program and must choose “Run the product” then you are in the 30-day trial mode. You must then log on as the administrator, launch Max and authorize the product using the serial number on the DVD case.

Not to cause unrest, but my actual serial number is in the about screen (Max 2009 Standard).
