Hey Tim - it should be noted that as of the middle of December 2008, Autodesk no longer offers licenses for MayaPLE. It has been replaced with a fully-functional (30-day) license of Maya Unlimited 2009.

Tim, thank you for your personal experience reflecting the lack of a watermark in the student edition of 3ds MAX. As an Autodesk authorized education reseller, we often receive the watermark question regarding Autodesk’s 3D animation programs. What’s difficult is finding a clear answer regarding 3ds MAX, Maya, and SoftImage. I believe what confuses people is that the student editions of the AutoCAD products have watermarks and in an Autodesk Student Community FAQ, there is this statement:

“The student version has a feature set/functionality which is identical to commercial and educational versions. None of the
functionality or features is removed or disabled. However all physical output from student licenses (e.g. Prints & plots)
will carry a watermark which indicates that the content was created using a student license in part or whole.”

This would lead one believe that the 3D animation products from Autodesk also have watermarks, and I believe this is why we might be seeing some incorrect information on some reseller sites. I’ve also called Autodesk reseller support, and a representative has said, “All Autodesk student editions have watermarks.” But from feedback from our clients and other feedback I’ve seen on the web, it appears the present versions of 3ds MAX, Maya, or SoftImage are not adding watermarks to their renders:

I hope this post provides some clarification regarding one of the most commonly asked questions regarding Autodesk’s 3D animation programs.

Sincerely,

So, does anyone know for certain whether or not the 2010 educational version of max has a watermark or not?
Can we still export using max script anyway?
