We are having installation problems on

1) Windows Vista Ultimate
log file says : .net framework runtime 2.0 sp1 error

But the machine has .net framework 3.5 running without any problems. Tried to install the .net SP1 manually, it says the software is already installed. 3ds Max 2009 fails to install failing to install .net framework runtime 2.0 sp1

2) Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2

Log file says: Installing 3ds max 2009 32 bit version has failed . No other reasons have been mentioned.

Succeeds in installing .net framework, msxmlparser and others except that above

I tried these

1) logged in Administrator : same result
2) compatibility mode Windows XP SP2 : same result

has anybody came across these problems. Are there any solution to this. Am I doing something wrong ?

Thanks for your thinking / reading here,
Adarsh

Cheers,
Adarsh

installed on 16 machines, had this problem on 5. I can’t explain why 5.
The best thing to do, to late for you now, is to just kill the install, restart and try and continue. That worked for me.

If you tried logging in as Admin and running it again your in for some work. I had to go to the registry and remove every trace of the install I could find. Then it worked.

I actually think there is a bug also that if the screensaver comes on the max install crashes, but I haven’t confirmed it. On the ones that had problems I think it was just because I left the computer alone for too long. But there’s really no way to confirm that.

Also, other than some minor changes is specs like possibly different brand memory and small things like that all 16 machines were exactly the same. I installed after a freshly new windows image so i know they are alike. Something is definitely up with the install.
I Really wish they would start coming out with one complete install that includes the service pack too. I’ve Never had luck with distributions. And I only have 18 computers so it’s not worth my time reading through all the docs trying to figure it out every 4 months there’s a new release.
