Hi guys,
my concern here is viewing stereo inside 3ds max viewport, just like Maya and Houdini they offer stereo function inside the viewport.
i have done some reserch and the only thing i found was the 3ds_Max_Performance_driver from Nvidia. also known as Maxtreme.
im using 3ds max 2009 on a windows xp 64 bit workstation with Quadro fx 4500 and have installed the 3ds_Max_Performance_driver from nvidia but i cant see any function to enable stero viewport.
dose anyone know how to do this or is it possible in the first place?
Thank you.

hi RedCobra im not looking for an orthographic view port,
im asking how to be able to view your model in stereo 3d “anglyph” red and blue offsets.
i found the attached image showing Houdini 10.
it would be grate if there is a way to do the same in 3ds max!
isn’t there a driver or sumthing out there for max?
Thanx.

Hi!
Yes - would be interesting to see how a 3dsmax stereoscopic workflow could be implemented…
Maya is heavily promoted for it’s S3D-Viewport since version 9.
Thanks to Louis Marcoux we have a S3D camera Rig for 3dsmax at least - but “not officially supported by Autodesk”
http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/louis/stereo_3ds_max_composite_workflow
Because 3dsmax viewport heavily bases on Direct-X there could be the great opportunity to support Nvidia 3D Vision technology right from the 3dsmax viewport??
http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-tv-play.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-3d-vision-3dtv-geforce,9893.html
http://3dvision-blog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=56
This way 3dsmax users could use todays affordable 3D tv sets with high picture quality and large screen sizes up to 60”.
Don’t like to go a “special” way and buy a exotic 19” S3D display for max because clients will have 3D cinema projectors or large 3D tv sets and not such a 19” computer display with different resolution aspect ration and so on…

Is there any update on this? I would love to model with a stereoscopic viewport.
The only thing I’ve found is Kotasoft’s 3D Vision Viewer: http://kostasoft.com/index.php?mod=download
But I can’t get it to work correctly. :c

Considering that the previous post is over 18 months old, I think you can safely say No. Besides, Max2009 is now 3 full releases out of date and will shortly be 4 and as such is unlikely in the extreme to recieve an upgrade like Stereoscopic viewports.
Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.
