I’m new here so I hope this is the right forum :). I clicked the icon on my desktop and the splash screen loads up and begins loading the plug-ins. It will get to biped.dlc and disappear. I tried starting the program 3 times with the same problem. I deleted 3dsmax.ini to see if that would help but it didn’t. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling 3ds max with no effect. The program will not start and still fails at biped.dlc. I’ve been using 3ds max on this computer for about six months now and this is the first time this has happened. I’m running 3ds Max 2009 32-bit on Windows XP.

Hi sorry Im not any help but Ive just had something simular happen. I reverted from the certified quadro driver to standard direct 3d and restarted. 3D studio now loads all dlo’s and freezes on “Starting 3d studio”. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled both software and graphic card drivers with no effect. Any suggestions?

Okay, I finally got 3ds Max to start by removing biped.dlc from /stdplugs folder. 3ds loads with no problems now. I’m just wondering what that means. Is the plugin corrupted? Am I just going to lose the biped system and is there any fix that anyone knows?

krsager,
This problem came up in a past version of Max and i assumed it had been fixed, not sure why it is happening.
Everything should work except biped, which is still a problem.
Try calling Autodesk or if on subscription contacting them from there.
There is also a way to submit a help ticket but not sure where that is right now.
teammittens,
Sounds like the video driver is causing the problem.
Look in your Start/Programs menu and find the Autodesk/Max entry, under that select the Change Graphics Mode.
If you still want to change to the standard d3D driver you may have to change the driver on the card first.

Thanks Don, actually the symtom was that Change Graphics Mode also froze without starting. It turned out to a corruption of the settings files stored in mydocuments. I deleted the 3d studio folder there and bingo, it started right up. Thanks for the help though.

I had a crash that ruined the biped.ini data file for my account, that seems to have fixed it. Go to
C:\Users\<YourLogin>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\20XX - XXbit\enu\plugcfg\
and rename BIPED.INI to something like BIPED.INI.CORRUPT and then restart max. It should create a new BIPED.INI and you can delete the bad one…
