I have a 2 computer render farm. One of them is my workstation. Is it possible to have the 2nd computer render, and at the end of the day, tell my computer to join the render party? ...Then in the morning, take my computer out of the mix so I can work for the day?

Thanks!

Dean

Yes, of couse you can. Read up on Backburner in the Help and other docs that come with Max.
Running Sever.exe will make the computer render, you can stop and start it as and when you want manually, or if you run Serversvc instead, you can make it start when you log off.

Put very simply:-
Run Manager on either machine. Run Server on the slave machine. Run Server on your workstation when you are not using it.
There is a bit more to it, like using UNC paths to maps, Xrefs etc… But that’s the basics.
When you are confident with the setup you could do something more advanced, running services, but keep it simple for now. That’s enough for a small farm.
Best to read the docs.
