Hi All,

Would like to ask around on what kind of hardware should I have in order to fully optimize the use of 3d max software with plug ins such as maxwell render and vray?

Can the software support cross fire or SLI technology for 4 core GPU?

Cheers!

It’s always depending on what you do and what you are intending - I’m in Arch Design Viz - so I render single high res frames at the end of the night and return in the morning - about 4 renderings a day between my staff therefore we have 4 dual quad core - 4 gigs of ram with an ATI 4850 card Dell (warranty - good for a small office) boxes. We run very little other software then max. Read up on cross fire (or Nvidia’s SLI). Again if you specfiy what you are trying to do in 3D we can probably help you more.

I see. well like yourself, I tend to do more visual renderings. but ranging from interior to product. I use alot of rhino and 3d max software along with photoshop and illustrator.  so kinda trying to find out if its better to get cross fire or SLI to boost up the speed of the renderings.

Also just wondering what would happen if I use 32-bit 3dmax in a 64 bit OS. particular in this case. using 32bit 3dmax in XP PRO 64bit OS.. will it still work? anybody encountered any problems?

If you are trying to speed up your render time, it is all about the Processors. Really put your money into Dual Quad Core Machines. RAM can be extremely important as well, depending on the size you are rendering out at as well as how poly intensive your scenes are.

Windows XP 64-bit
Dual Intel Xeon X5482 3.20GHz
32GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700
Dual 20” Dell LCD monitors.
3ds Max 2009 64-bit
Adobe Creative Suite 2

If you have a 64-bit OS you are going to want to run 64 bit MAX to take advantage of all the RAM. But if you really want to run 32-bit .. it still can be run on a 64 bit OS.

I see. okay. I get your point.. Is there a good mobo out there that can support dual quad core?
