I’m tracing an image in max to extrude.  When i put the bitmap material of the object it look blurry.  When i render, it looks fine.  I switch from directx 9 to 10 and it was looked good, but once i put a few object in it and try to switch from one viewport to four it crashes.  I did it again and saved before I went from 1 to 4 and it crashed again.  Now I can’t even open it without it crashing.  It will still open in directx 9 but the image still is unreadable.

How can I fix the image in 9 or get 10 to stop crashing.

A number of people including myself have had reported stability issues with DirectX10 and intermittent crashes with 3DSMAX and have reverted back to DirectX9.

There are a few settings you can adjust to enhance the image in the viewport but it will never be of the same quality as the original. I have attached the settings found in the Direct3D properties which you can adjust to preference. Also you can use DirectX Shader material to enhance the image even further ( tutorial here: http://area.autodesk.com/tips/make_a_clear_blueprint_in_max ) but again it will never be as good as the original.

I don’t think those changes made any difference.  I’m so frustrated because the image was perfect in 10.
