I am new to Max, and have been going through the tutorials in “3ds Max 2009 Bible”, and have found that many of the sample files crash the program.  I suspect it has to do with Max being optimized for Open GL and my machine being optimized for DX 10. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I tried to attach the latest file that causes crashing, but for some odd reason Max files are not allowed in a Max forum .

I do hope you did the tutorials which ship with Max first - 3rd party ones can be great or lousy, but you won’t know which until you understand the basics…

Max is optimised for DirectX - not OGL. Max does not, at present, like DX10 very much - you would be well advised to configure Max for DX9.

To attach a .max you must zip it first.

Max 4.2 through 2013.
XP-64 (SP2)
NVidia 9800GTX-512 (Driver 266.58).
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX9.0c.
